Did you look at our page of pregnancy symptoms? If you are experiencing some of those, it’s time to take a pregnancy test. Our lab-quality tests are free and the results are always confidential.

HOW DOES A PREGNANCY TEST WORK?

When a woman becomes pregnant, her body begins to produce the human pregnancy hormone known as hCG. This hormone maintains the production of other important hormones after a fertilized egg attaches to the wall of the uterus, usually 6 days after fertilization. The levels of hCG rise quickly, doubling every 2 to 3 days.

A pregnancy test measures the amount of hCG in your urine. If you take a pregnancy test too early, you may get a false negative result because the level has not increased enough to be detected.

WHEN SHOULD I TAKE A PREGNANCY TEST?

The timing of a pregnancy test is often based on your regular menstrual cycle. If it is like clockwork, every 28 days, you will want to take your test a day or two after your missed period. If your cycle is irregular, we suggest you wait 5 to 7 days before taking a pregnancy test. By waiting longer, you will be able to get a more accurate urine sample.

Our free pregnancy tests are lab quality with a 98% accuracy rate. All pregnancy tests at Alpha PRC are administered in a private, comfortable room. Your client advocate will walk you through how to take the test and stay with you while you wait for the results, generally about 5 minutes.

WHAT TO DO IF THE TEST IS POSITIVE

We know a positive result is a lot to take in, especially when the pregnancy is unplanned. Your client advocate will be available to listen to your concerns and fears, as well as begin to discuss your options. However, before you can make any decision about your pregnancy, you will need an ultrasound.

We will refer you for an ultrasound in order to find out how far along you are, where the pregnancy is located, and if it is viable (a heartbeat is detected). This is information you will need moving forward.

Once you have found out as much information as possible about your pregnancy, we would love to talk with you about your options and answer any questions. We truly care about you and hope you will continue talking with us even after your final test results. No matter what you choose, we are here to support you and help you along the way.
